Fuel Cell Benefits

There are an endless amount of fuel cell benefits to reap. The environmental benefits alone easily outweigh any of the negative. Fuel cells are designed to emit almost zero harmful emissions and over time, this will make a significant impact on our society and environment. I think the debate of whether oil and gas emissions are harmful is over, because they are. Fuel cells are the best, most efficient option to replace these old gas guzzlers that are only hurting us in the long run. Every time you fill up your tank you are losing 84% of your gas right when you drive off. Only 16% of your fuel is actually used to produce energy and get your car moving, the rest is just wasted in the process. Hydrogen can be produced almost anywhere on the planet, completely eliminating the need for foreign oil imports. Vehicles on the road consume over six million barrels of oil per day, that’s about 85% of all oil. If 20% of these vehicles were to use fuel cells, we would save on 1.5 million barrels every single day. That’s 547 million barrels of oil every single year that could be saved and used for something else. Seems pretty silly to still use as much gas as we do, doesn’t it?

Beyond vehicles and the obvious, what other benefits will these fuel cells provide us? If you are not a believer yet, you most certainly will be. The seemingly endless list of advantages to using fuel cells is just beginning; they are widely believed to be a great alternative for just about anything. Fuel cells are capable of being configured to provide backup power to a grid, should anything malfunction. You could have your own renewable fuel source in your own backyard, constantly feeding off of hydrogen and producing tons of precious energy. Fuel cells could create new markets requiring the use of steel, electronics, and many other jobs. Fuel cells could provide tens of thousands of high-quality jobs and increase the western world’s economy. Fuel cells draw comparisons to batteries quite often, and while they are very similar they are also quite different. A fuel cell does not ever require recharging, only the replacement of the fuel source, such as Hydrogen or methane. You would be able to see your phone is about to die and you stick in a new fuel source, possibly in a small test tube like bottle. Not only will the energy source be inexpensive, but this would be fairly simple for anyone to replace on the fly. This technology can be asserted to just about anything, phones, computers, electronics, anything you can think of could be generated with power from a fuel cell, we have the technology to do it and in turn we could reap the many fuel cell benefits.
